Benefit Cosmetics, Eyelash Tinting

Benefit Cosmetics, Eyelash Tinting

For today's adventure, I'm going to talk about my experience in getting my eyelashes tinted at Benefit Cosmetics (yes that's a thing). Benefit Cosmetics is a manufacturer of cosmetics founded and headquartered in San Francisco, California that sells at over 2,000 counters in more than 30 countries. Alright, so someone I know that works at Benefit told me that I should try out getting my lashes tinted because mine are so blond, and according to her, “it would really make my eyes pop” since I have green eyes. I was initially apprehensive because of the following:

  1. I’m a guy, going into a cosmetics store. Not that I have any issues with that, but everyone usually either looks at me weird, or like I’m lost.
  2. I’ve never had anything like this done before and I didn’t want it to look like I have mascara on but having my eyes pop did sound pretty fresh.

I know there are a lot of men especially who are afraid to go out on a limb and try something that could be perceived to be "feminine" so I did the leg work for you. I recently had some free time so I worked up the nerve to to pop in by myself and see what it was about. I literally had no idea what i was doing or asking for really, but the woman that helped me was super cool, she was able to get me an appointment set up right away, and it was really affordable ($23) so I figured why the hell not.

I’ll tell you.. the experience was kind of surreal, but not not scary or weird at all surprisingly…  There are multiple tint shades you can get that last up to 3-4 weeks. I chose the lightest option just to dip my toe in the water. It took about 10 minutes total and I could instantly see a subtle and natural but noticeable difference.

The process is pretty simple, short, and painless. They put a layer of vaseline on your under and upper eye lid, then eye pads to keep the tint off of your skin. Then you close your eyes and the artist (I’m going to say artist because I have no idea what they call their employees and artist sounds fitting) paints the tint on and lets it "marinade" for like 10 minutes. After, they just wipe off the excess and hose you down with a little saline solution and you’re out the door. I'd say the only awkward part is sitting in a chair with your eyes closed for 10 minutes, but the woman who did my service checked in on me every few minutes.

Overall, I’d say it's definitely worth the money. The darkest color they do is a blue black which some people were getting while I was there, and it really does make you look like you have mascara on. But if you’re like me, guy or girl, and you just want a little eye pop, I’d definitely recommend going to your nearest Benefit and trying it out.

While you're there, they have tons of other skin care and makeup products that are pretty amazing as well! Checkout online from the link above.
