Reorganize Your Life
This week, I wanted to share with everyone the first of a series on taking back control of your home/room/apartment, because your personal space should be a sanctuary that you love to come home to. Things that get in the way of that are clutter, poor design, and not enough time for cleaning and organizing.
When your home is in disarray, it also causes you to feel just as hectic mentally as your living space is. And who needs any more stress in this world, especially when it is in your control.
Today the focus is on the over all organization and cleanliness aspect of your home and how to regain that control when it feels hopeless especially when you have no idea where to start. I'm a super busy guy and am not a super-mom like my sister who always seems to have everything spotless 100 percent of the time, which is SO annoying to me, but also motivational.
Sometimes, keeping up with all of the house chores seems so overwhelming even when you live with another person who also helps. Luckily, maintaining is easier than starting from scratch each week and having it consume an entire weekend or day. Although cleaning and organization can be therapeutic, who wants that taking up an entire day and interrupting your social life.
I worked with one of my best friends Sammy, who shared with me an amazing technique to keep everything under control, feel manageable, and not take up time, which lack there of is the main motivational killer.
The method is simple, just follow the below steps every single day in the morning before you go to work, and again when you get home or right before bed.
Step 1: Create a playlist of your favorite music.
Step 2: Push play and pick 1 area that you want to tackle.
Step 3: Stop after the 3rd song
That really is it! It seems so simple, but it totally works, unless you pic one of those songs that never go over 2 minutes! This way everything stays maintained and never reaches an out of control moment. Now granted you SHOULD start with a full commitment deep cleaning first but I'll leave that up to you.
Three songs on my playlist are:
- Beyonce - "Hold Up"
- DJ Snake - "Let me Love You"
- The Chainsmokers - "Closer"
Three on Sammy's playlist are:
- Aretha Franklin - "You Make Me Feel Like"
- Basement Jaxx - "Do Your Thing"
- Bastille - "Pompeii"
