Native vs. Schmidt's - Natural Deodorant Review

Native vs. Schmidt's - Natural Deodorant Review

As we become more aware about the impact of products we use every day have on our bodies (and the environment), the search for the best products for us becomes harder. The search is amplified as more and more products that are aimed at a holistic & health conscious consumer become available.

One area of particular interest to me has become natural deodorants, which have seen a pretty big boom lately! Over the years, several studies have come out that have indicated that aluminum, which is present in anti-perspirant deodorant, could be linked to increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease and breast cancer.

With that in mind, I was curious to try some of the leading and emerging natural deodorants because first of all, I don’t want an increased risk of cancer, but also, I don’t want B.O.! So I ended up trying a few leading brands, Schmidt’s (Lavender + Sage) and NATIVE (Eucalyptus & Mint), so that you don’t have to!

THE RESULTS ARE IN:

Schmidt’s (Lavender + Sage)
Price: $4.69
What I liked:

What I didn’t like:

  • The texture was a little grainy

  • You have to warm it up on your skin before applying

NATIVE (Eucalyptus & Mint)
Price: $11.99
What I liked:

  • I preferred the smell compared to Schmidt’s

  • No aluminum

  • No parabens

  • Made in the USA

  • Went on like a regular deodorant

What I didn’t like:

  • The price

  • Didn’t keep me odor free

My winner is Schmidt’s for SURE! Granted our bodies are all different and will react differently to different products. The good news is, Schmidt’s is cheaper at 1/3 of the price, so that’s a good place to start. My take-away… The more expensive product isn’t always the best product! Happy Hunting!
