White After Labor Day
Fashion rules are ever changing as far as what is and isn't considered acceptable. As those "rules" evolve so should you!
One of the biggest ones that I hear people ask about is wearing white after Labor Day. The old rule says that you should only wear white between Memorial Day (the unofficial kick off to summer) and Labor Day (the unofficial end of summer). I can't get a good answer about when this started but I've seen some references to the aristocrats of the late 1800 - early 1900s. Regardless, white was typically reserved for resort wear and weddings.
My whole take is that those days are over, and with the rise of multi-dimensional fashion (and more importantly winter white), there is no reason to follow this rule unless you are an extreme traditionalist.
The most important thing is to dress in season no matter the colors. I try to keep nautical stripes, seersucker, and sandals in the summer months only, because otherwise it just looks out of place for events or activities that you are a part of. Realistically though, Fashion is one of the best forms of outward expression, so throw out the rules and do what makes you feel good!
Besides, there are still some great summer-esque days left after Labor Day!
